CyberBuddy Email Setup

The email setup for CyberBuddy is much like setting up an email client program.

Description:
In the description box, put something that describes the mailbox. CyberBuddy will announce this when you have mail, if you are using multiple mailboxes, so that you know where your mail is. Just use something like: Family Mail, John's Yahoo mail, or something meaningful. This description will also appear in the mail account list.

Mail Server:
Generally, this is the mail server as designated by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). If your mail address is yourname@somewhere.com then your mail server might be mail.somehwere.com or pop.somewhere.com  or something similar. Check the list below to see if your ISP is listed.

The mail functions will not work with web based mail accounts. Some popular web based mail services that will not work with CyberBuddy are:
Hotmail, AOL mail, Excite, Juno, MailCity.
Also, MSN may use an authentication process that may not work with CyberBuddy.
Yahoo mail as of April 24,2002 will no longer support POP3 and therefore will no longer work with CyberBuddy.
However, you can have Hotmail send notices to another email account that has POP access. I put up a special page to show how to do this. You can check it out here.

User Name
This is the User ID or User Name for the mail box.

Password
This is your email password

When you have finished entering the information, and you are sure you are online, click the "Test" button. CyberBuddy will tell you if it could contact your mailbox. When all is working, click the "Add" button to add this mail information to your mail account list.
