Q: Why don't I have Caller ID on CyberBuddy?
A. You must have the Premium version of CyberBuddy to have Caller ID capability. This is available at theCyberBuddy Premium Page

Q: What is required for Caller ID?
A. You must have:

  • CyberBuddy Premium.
  • A special voice modem
  • Windows TAPI installed
  • Caller ID service from your phone company

Q: Will my modem work with Caller ID?
    A. Your modem needs to be a Voice Modem in order to operate with Caller ID.

    Here is a link (http://www.sunny-beach.net/modems/modemlist.htm
to a page from a software vendor that talks about various modems with Caller ID capability.

You can check the Caller ID FAQ at: http://www.ainslie.org.uk/callerid/cli_faq.htm#Q_18.

Your Windows version must also support TAPI.

The best bet, is run a free Caller ID utility provided by Symantec. This utility will check out your modem and Windows version. It can make adjustments to your system to allow Caller ID to work if your modem supports it. This program is included on the CyberBuddy Premium download. It is called "CallerID.exe". The file can also be downloaded from ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/products/winfax_pro/ver8/utilities/CallerID.exe .

Q: Does the program support Call Waiting Caller ID or show me who is calling while I am on the internet?
    A. I have not seen this work as yet.

Q: Do you have any more tips for getting the Caller ID to work?
    A. CyberBuddy uses Windows TAPI interface to perform the Caller ID function. You can look into the following to try to get TAPI to work for Caller ID:
First check to see if you have the latest INF file for your modem. Visit the tech support web site of your modem manufacture and download the latest INF file for your modem or contact tech support. To install the new INF, please so the following: copy the file to the Windows\Inf directory, go to Starts > Settings > Control Panel, Double-Click on Modem, Select the Modem, click on Remove, click the Add option and follow the directions to install the modem.
Make sure your have the latest UnimodemV driver (do not do this if you are running Windows NT)
Universal Modem Driver - UNIMODEM is a Telephony Service Provider (TSP) supplied with Microsoft Windows and supports only the simple telephony features but not Caller ID. If you have Windows 95 then you probably will need to install the latest UnimodemV. Download the latest UnimodemV here: click here to download. To install this file move it to an empty temporary directory and then double-click on A5582.exe to extract the files. Then right clicked the Unimodv.inf and choose install. If it can't find the files it is trying to install, then point it to the directory where you put A5582.exe. Then reboot your computer and it will now be updated.
For additional information see the following link http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q150/6/19.asp
Here is a brief overview of this link: A 32-bit TAPI program may not be able to access installed modems. Even though there is a modem installed, the program may start the Install New Modem Wizard, or may not allow you to select a modem. For example, when you start the Make New Connection wizard in Dial-Up Networking, the Install New Modem wizard may start even though a modem is already installed. This behavior can occur if the Unimodem TAPI Service Provider file (Unimdm.tsp) is missing or damaged. Extract a new copy of the Unimdm.tsp file from your original Windows disks or CD-ROM to the Windows\System folder. For Windows 95, the Unimdm.tsp file is located in the Win95_03.cab cabinet file. For Windows 98, the Unimdm.tsp file is located in the Win98_63.cab cabinet file.
